A good counsellor isn’t necessary a well-known practitioner with high qualifications but rather one who is committed to professional and personal development. While counselling theories are important, a client might benefit more from a genuine connection with their counsellor.
Whether we have 10 years, 20 years, 30 years of experience, we should always be brutally honest in asking ourselves why we do what we do, and be committed in serving our clients.
In this non-regulated field, for clients who are choosing a right counsellor, apart from their credentials, specialty, gender, age etc. Do ensure the counsellor has some of the above-mentioned characteristics, someone whom you feel connected and comfortable with in your journey of growth.
